The colours are strongly reminiscent of the Icelandic wild bluegrass which happens to be one of my favourite flowers. Although it is a rather small flower I have here ignored scale and include gigantic stigma and style, microscopic and molecular features as well as more recognisable petals and leaf outlines. Note: this is a diptych painting, each half is 140 X 100 cm..
Originally educated as a geologist (PhD), I have worked in this field and taught for 36 years until retirement. I have been painting full time since 2005 and have held several solo and joint exhibitions. Although living in Iceland for most of my life, I was born and raised in Co. Derry, N.
